The site is located in the vicinity of Mokgam residential area in Siheung City, where the flow of greenery is cut off by a highway at the end of Hannam. We tried to connect the disconnected green using an aerial rest stop. In addition, the site is located in the greenbelt and has limited allowance for development and use, permitting only minimal essential facilities to be developed.

This required a three-dimensional plan to make the most use of the available site. Major resting facilities were planned overhead of the highway, and underground space was used for parking spaces and other facilities to maximize space utilization. The interior of the rest area was developed into the concept of a sky forest. For the interior, we worked together with a interior team to create an atmosphere of resting in nature, which utilizes the view of nature, interior landscaping, green walls and a skylight. During the planning stage, we wanted to show the symbolism of the first aerial rest stop in Korea.

The design motif is a dynamic form in which the curves and straight lines of a vehicle’s silhouette complement each other, which is emphasized as you approach the highway. The open and closed sections are appropriately coordinated to provide new experiences for users of the facilities and the highway. Parking and pedestrian circulation planning was also important as it is a highway rest area. One way traffic was introduced in order to facilitate the smooth circulation of vehicles, and the front of the car park was extended for easy parking.

As for pedestrian circulation, a number of escalators and elevators were installed to overcome the difference in levels of the site, and to provide shade from direct sunlight and rain when visitors move from the parking lot to the service facility, the lower part of the solar canopy can be used as a walkway. To meet government policies for eco-friendly architecture as a project being developed in a greenbelt area, we installed eco-friendly energy facilities such as a charging facility for electric vehicles and introduced new and renewable energy sources such as geothermal and solar energy.

시흥하늘휴게소

대상지는 시흥시 목감택지지구 부근으로 한남정맥의 끝부분에 고속도로에 의해 녹지흐름이 단절된 곳이다. 단절된 녹지의 흐름을 본선 상공형 휴게소를 이용하여 연결하고자 하였다. 아울러 개발제한구역에 위치한 부지는 개발 및 사용이 제한되는 지역으로 최소한의 필수 시설만 개발이 허용되므로 가용가능한 부지를 최대한 이용한 입체적인 계획이 필요했다. 고속도로 상공부 공간에 주요 휴게시설을 계획하고 지하공간을 이용하여 주차장 및 부대시설을 배치하여 공간 활용을 극대화 하였다.

휴게소 내부인테리어는 하늘 숲 휴게소 컨셉으로 발전시켰다. 인테리어팀과 함께 내부에 실내조경 및 벽면 녹화, 하늘로 열린 천창을 통해 자연으로 열린 개방감과 자연속에 쉬는 것과 같은 느낌이 들도록 하였다. 계획 당시 국내최초 상공형 휴게소의 상징성을 나타내고자 하였다. 디자인 모티브는 차량의 실루엣에서 보이는 곡선과 직선이 조화를 이루는 역동적인 형태로 고속도로에서 접근하면서 형태적인 인지성이 강하게 부각될 수 있도록 하였으며, 열린 부분과 닫힌 부분을 적절하게 조화시켜 내부 이용객들의 움직임과 고속도로 이용객들에게 새로운 경험을 제공하도록 의도하였다. 고속도로 휴게소인 만큼 주차와 보행자 동선 계획 또한 중요하다.

차량 동선이 원활히 이루어지도록 일방향 통행 유도와 주차에 어려움이 없도록 전면 확장형 주차폭을 적용하였다. 보행자의 동선은 부지 내 단차를 극복하기 위해 다수의 에스컬레이터와 승강기를 설치하였고, 주차장에서 휴게동으로 접근 시에는 태양광 캐노피 하단을 보행 통로로 이용하면서 우천 및 직사광선을 피할 수 있도록 계획하였다. 개발제한구역에 개발되는 사업으로 친환경건축물 시책에 부응하고자 지열에너지, 태양광 에너지 등 신재생에너지 도입 및 전기자동차 충전 시설 등 친환경 에너지시설을 적극 반영하였다.
