아로망슈(Arromanches)의 D-Day 박물관은 제2차 세계대전 이후라는 주제를 바탕으로 설립된 최초의 박물관이다. 2024년 프로젝털즈(Projectiles)가 디자인한 건물을 개장하며 박물관 역사에 한 획을 그었다. 이 박물관은 동쪽에서 서쪽으로(절벽에서 절벽으로), 북쪽에서 남쪽으로(마을의 지평선을 따라) 뻗어 있는 훨씬 더 넓은 의미의 박물관 시스템에 속하는 ‘전체’라는 이미지로 그려진다.
The D-Day Museum in Arromanches was the first museum created on this theme in the aftermath of the Second World War. A new page in the museum's history was written in 2024 with the opening of the new building designed by Projectiles. This landscape-museum is imagined as a “ whole ” belonging to a much vaster museum system stretching from east to west (from cliff to cliff) and from north to south (the horizon of the village).
광장과 경사면에서 박물관의 다섯 면이 모두 보이고 서로 다른 규모의 상호작용 속에서 다양한 풍경을 담은 프레임을 제공하는 것에 초점을 맞추었다. 이 프로젝트는 대지와의 관계와 단순한 부피, 엄격한 건축이 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 내부에서 외부로(혹은 그 반대로) 수많은 전망이 있는 지평선 박물관이다.
From the square and the slope, all five of the museum’s faces are visible and contribute to the diversity of regards focused through it onto the landscape, by offering different framings, in a dialogue with the different scales. The project is characterised by its relation to the site, its simple volumetry, and its constructive rigour. It is a horizon museum whose many vistas from the interior towards the exterior (and conversely) are of the utmost importance.
1층의 공공 공간과 광장, 거리는 박물관까지 이어져있다. 1층의 작품들과 카드, 사물이 풍경과 서로 잘 어울린다. 지붕으로 이어진 구조물과 파사드, 갤러리 벽과 투영이 사라지고 대체적으로 부지와 대조를 이룬다.
깊이 4m, 높이 8m의 차양이 박물관 전체에 걸쳐 펼쳐져 있다. 조립식 밝은 색상의 콘크리트 기둥은 차별화된 패턴에 따라 건물의 주변을 구성한다. 거대한 유리 프레임이 콘크리트 외골격을 이룬다. 길이 16m, 폭 4m의 거대한 세로 방향 균열이 각 레벨의 평면을 이룬다. 크기는 거대한 피닉스 케이슨과 동일한 비율을 보인다.
앞마당과 박물관 내부 사이의 땅과 바다를 가로지르는 방문 경로는 1944년 6월 광장(Place du 6 juin 1944)과 해안 산책로에서 시작된다. 전시 갤러리는 전쟁 발발부터 해방까지 연대순에 따라 또는 주제에 따라 점차적으로 외부를 향하며 놓여 있다.
On the ground floor, the public space and the square and the street extend into the museum. On the first floor, on the level of the collections, cards, and objects dialogue with the landscape. Upon reaching the roof, structures, façades, gallery walls, and projections disappear. The confrontation with the site is total.
An awning with a depth of 4 metres and a height of 8 metres stretches across the entire length of the museum. Prefabricated light-coloured concrete columns compose the building’s periphery according to differentiated patterns. Great glazed frames fill in the concrete exoskeleton. A great longitudinal fracture 16 meters long and 4 meters wide structures the plan of each level. Their dimensions present the same rapport of proportions as the great Phoenix caissons.
Straddling land and sea, between the forecourt, and museum’s interior, the path of the visit begins at the Place du 6 juin 1944 and the shoreline promenade. The exhibition galleries gradually open towards the exterior, following a chronological and thematic path: from the outbreak of the war up to the liberation.
