This architecture that is comprised of the superposition of two rectangular masses is a building motivated by the house in the story, Anne of Green Gables by Montgomery. The client has dreamed the house of Anne Shirley in the story, which has a green roof and windows. Thus, the client requested to design a house by reinterpreting Anne’s house modernistically. At the beginning of the design, the shape of the floor was ‘L’ and the roof was a gable roof. But, the floor ended up to having a 150 degrees alternate angle in the light of the relationship with a courtyard in the south. Since the architecture should house a family of four including two boys and the size of the building is around 56.2m², the architect tried to secure a sensual feel of area by linking each space and maximizing natural light.

The furniture of the client who live in an apartment for a long time has not an appropriate size for a space of the small detached house. Because such details could influence the entire house in architecture, the architect tried to think about possible things that the small sized things can do and the possibility of them. It could be said that an areal unit of this architecture is composed by furniture, like an aggregate of extreme partial components. Therefore, the architect focused on the relationship between spaces that have different functions, not focusing on the entire, and decided to define small orders between parts, not the entire order. Walking through the entrance, the first floor area has a main entrance as well as another entrance to have a flexible moving path.

Also, open stairway with the height of 8.8m is a space built by superposing two masses. This stairway allows the walls and the ceiling that are continuously transformed by formative components from 150 degrees alternative angle by superposition of two masses to maximize a feeling of openness and solves high density of spaces. The second floor that not has a master bedroom for husband and wife and two bedrooms for kids secures openness and size. Also, it was designed to have a flexibility in the case when all family member should have privacy in the future.

Since the area for kid’s bedroom is just 9m², the program for that area was separated up and down connected to the third floor. On the third floor connected by the staircase, floor storage furniture was arranged to secure storage space and an individual work space. As the shape of the building was not determined at the beginning, and it is a result of combining parts, the entire building is a sort of jungle gym for kids. And the architect wishes the building to become a house that the client has dreamed.
